Settlers
Yesterday after church my parents and I went to the travel agency in Rice Lake to start checking out some prices for flights on specific dates and whatnot. What's complicating matters is that we're not really sure what all we're gonna want to be seeing down in Australia and New Zealand, or when we'll be wanting to see it, so it's kind of difficult at this point to have specifics pinned down for the travel agent to check out. What's even further complicating matters is that I'm considering the possibility of taking the J-Term 2005 course Astronomy of the Southern Skies, being taught by Chuck at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. If Gustavus is willing to knock enough off of the price to take into consideration that I'd be purchasing my own airfare, I might possibly be convinced to just stay Down Under for that as well. I'd just hang out and tour around for December, and then meet up with the group of Gusties in January. An interesting prospect, even if it's not terribly likely. The more likely possibility that we're now considering is that I'd just stay down there until Dec 20 or so, a couple weeks past when my parents have to fly back to the States, so that I could have a little extra time to tour around and whatnot, but not spend all the extra money on a class that I really don't need. Hmm, decisions, decisions...
Last night I hung out with Mike for a bit at his house, but unfortunately the Gopher women lost to UConn in the Final Four. Oh well, it was a great run, and a fun one to watch too! But anyways, after the game got done, we just hung out and played some Madden. He beat me pretty badly, 38-7, but it was still fun. We're hoping to get together again tomorrow night to watch "Scarface" and "Kill Bill Vol. 1" on Thursday (with Kevin joining us both of those nights too of course), so I'm keepin my fingers crossed that that'll be able to happen.
Nothing terribly eventful happened during the day today, I just sat around and read a lot, and then in the afternoon I watched a pretty good creation vs. evolution debate with my parents on a DVD they'd recently ordered.
This evening I went over to my brother Nathan & Laura's house in Rice Lake to hang out a bit. We played a game of "Settlers of Catan," which Laura won in startlingly quick fashion. We were playing that while watching the Twins season-opener vs the Indians on TV. That was a great game, with the Twins coming back from a 4-0 deficit in the 8th inning, to win on a 3-run walkoff homer by, who else, Shannon Stewart in the 11th inning! Hopefully this is a good omen of things to come this season for the Twins.
